also… the reason the Cathay cabin feels soo spacious is because there are no overhead bins so the ceiling is much higher, makes a big difference. yet cathay somehow managed to give you plenty of room to stow away your large wheely thing and another bag & duty free shop. BA’s 747 cabin has overheads and the ones in the first 2 rows small.

Travelling in CX F more often than any other and BA F when I have no other choice, there is no comparison between the two. If you regard CX F as F then BA F is more like business class and not a particularly good one at that.

CX were of course able to get away from overhead bins simply because the seats are more generous in space and there is far more space for nine seats than fourteen. There’s also far more room to move around in.

There is no comparison in any regard be it food, crew or seats. CX wins every time.

I will be flying first time in First in a few weeks. I have been allocated 1K. I will be travelling alone, should I change to 2K?

I WOULD IN 1K YOU ARE LITERALLY SAT RIGHT NEXT TO 1A AND THAT WARDROBE AT THE FRONT IS A PAIN. HOPE YOUR EXPERIENCE IN 2K WAS BETTER THAN MINE THOUGH. IMO THE FOOD WAS NO DIFFERENT TO CLUB AND THE SERVICE PALES IN COMPARISON TO THE LIKES OF CX OR EY.

Just saw this picture of the BA 747 First cabin. Is this the New or Old First cabin?

Thanks Becky and Dos, it actually looks very nice and this is from an independent photographer, not BA’s publicity machine.

Have a good Sunday. I’ve got the honour of watching 92 great students graduate and talking last night to some of them I’m just amazed by the depth of their knowledge and plans for the future. It’s really quite humbling.

I thought a couple of pics of CX first might be interesting as a comparison, amazing how much bigger the seat looks and so nice not to have overhead storage:

Wow, what a difference. Looks very nice. I’ve not flown CX for years, will have to give them serious thought.

LPPS & CXD how would you rate CX first compared to SQ first/suites?

When you look around at nose configs on the 747 you can also see that VS has fourteen seats in what is business class, I’m no fan but this is how it looks which I think is quite pleasing and less crowded than BA F:

Or look at TG who have just ten F seats:

It’s no wonder BA F feels overcrowded in comparison to the competition.

I posted a link to pics of the LH 748 in another thread but give the topic of this thread it seems appropriate to post it again here, eight seats which I think is the lowest number of F seats and the F cabin looks great.

try it and you’ll see how. SQ’s f class suites beds are narrow. have a good look. Cathay’s Frist class bed is more spcious and more com
    fortable.

SQ F seats do not even start to match CX F, they are basically the C seat with a bit more space. The suites are a different proposition.

I think it’s fair to say they are different and I don’t think one is better than the other. Privacy on SQ is absolute once you close the door, the bed is a little narrow but I’ve always slept very well in it. The seat is also very good and of course bed and seat are completely separate and the only part the seat plays in the bed is to fold forward to form a bedside table. The CX seat converts to a very comfortable and wider bed, it’s extremely good and the additional width is I think unmatched.

I really would not criticise either product. I see them as different but totally equal and am happy to fly either. Crew, IFE and food are equal too so nothing to choose.
