Iberia has followed sister carrier British Airways into the realms of Avios-Only flights.

BA first launched the Avios-Only initiative last year, with initial routes from Gatwick to Sharm El Sheikh and Heathrow to Geneva.

These were followed shortly after by Avios-Only flights to Las Palmas, Lanzarote, Tenerife and Nice, then Florence, Mallorca, Faro, Corfu and Ibiza,  Dubai, and most recently Barbados and Geneva.

Iberia has now launched its own Iberia Plus Flights, and has reserved selected services from Madrid to Santorini and Catania for Avios redemptions by Iberia Plus members.

The flights depart Madrid for Santorini on 7 July (with the return service on 14 July), and for Catania on 27 July (with the return service on 3 August).

Iberia says that members of the Iberia Plus loyalty programme can redeem for the Catania service from 2,100 Avios plus €73.80 each way, up to a maximum of 8,250 Avios plus €23.80, and for the Santorini flights from 2,750 Avios plus €83.80 up to a maximum 11,000 Avios plus €23.80.

Note that this promotion was announced yesterday (8 May), so there’s no guarantee that there will be any tickets still available for these flights – BA’s previous Avios-Only services have all sold out very quickly.

BA Executive Club members can transfer Avios to / from Iberia Plus accounts, providing the Iberia Plus account is more than 90 days old and has earned at least one Avios.
