The Belfry Hotel & Resort has begun work on an £80 million expansion and renovation project which will see the creation of additional rooms, and a new leisure club and events space.

The resort property – which has hosted the Ryder Cup golf tournament on four occasions – is situated in Wishaw, around eight miles from Birmingham city centre.

Business Traveller last reviewed the hotel in 2014, shortly after its last major renovation project.

The new works are set to be completed in autumn 2025, and will include the creation of The Masters Suite – a new 852 sqm events space overlooking the Brabazon golf course and capable of accommodating up to 920 guests.

The expansion will also see the addition of 149 new bedrooms in an adjoining building, as well as a new leisure club with a swimming pool featuring a family slide, and indoor and outdoor hot tubs.

The project follows the recent refurbishment of existing bedrooms, as well as the creation of two new outdoor events spaces and the redesign of the property’s Brabazon Bar and Lobby.

Commenting on the news Chris Eigelaar, resort director, said:

“The commencement of work on site is a significant moment for the entire team at The Belfry after years of planning behind the scenes. Work on the new Masters Suite and the wider refurbishment is moving at quite a pace already, and it’s exciting to see the progress that’s made each day.

“We are experiencing increased demand for large events in the luxury venue market from both new and existing customers. The Masters Suite will allow us to accommodate major events that we haven’t been able to cater for before.

“The Masters Suite and adjoining bedrooms will transform our offering by providing a dedicated space for the meetings, incentives, conferences and events market. It will also be the perfect luxury venue for large weddings. We’re looking forward to building on our reputation as an outstanding business, leisure, and golf destination.”
