Accor’s ibis property close to Gatwick airport is nearing the end of renovation works, and is set to reopen next month.

The ibis London Gatwick Airport closed in 2021 following a fire at the premises, after which owner Starboard Hotels decided to embark on a full renovation programme.

Business Traveller received a press release from Accor detailing forthcoming properties in Europe, in which the Gatwick hotel was briefly mentioned.

The Starboard Hotels website confirms that a fifth floor has been added to the property, as well as an extension to the front to make space for more rooms, and the building’s lifts have been replaced.

Meanwhile Accor’s webpage for the hotel states that the property has been “totally transformed for 2024 through top-to-bottom renovation”.

The hotel’s room count will rise to 182 rooms, and there will be a 130-cover restaurant.

Going forward the hotel will be known as the ibis Styles London Gatwick Airport.

There has been no official confirmation as to when the hotel will reopen, but Accor is currently taking reservations from 22 April.

The hotel is located on London Road, around 3.5 miles from Gatwick airport.

Starboard Hotels has confirmed that it has employed Simon Fordham as the new general manager of the ibis Styles London Gatwick Airport, and has provided Business Traveller with the following quote:

“I am delighted to be leading this fantastic project for Starboard Hotels,” said Fordham.

“Even though there was a hotel here before, we’re seeing ourselves as the newest player in the Gatwick market, and we’re set on becoming a runaway success.

“For our guests who are heading to the airport, I like to think that their journey, be it for holiday or business, starts with us.

“We have created 50 new local jobs, and expect to instantly become a major destination for holidaymakers and business travellers, especially because we are offering park and fly services.

“I am thrilled to join the team at Starboard. Gatwick Airport is a bustling hub, and I am eager to ensure that our guests receive unparalleled service during their stay.”
