The Ruby Group has announced plans for its first property in Northern Europe, with a 187-room hotel set to open in Stockholm.

The as-yet-unnamed hotel will be situated on the island of Kungsholmen within converted former office space, and is scheduled to open in spring 2026.

Features will include an 11th floor restaurant and a “round-the-clock bar and café”. Note the image above is of a room at Ruby Louise in Frankfurt.

The group said that the property “represents a significant milestone, with entry into the Scandinavian market recognised as a formidable challenge due to the strong presence of local operators and a competitive office market”.

Ruby Hotels launched in 2013, and currently operates 17 properties in locations including London, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Zurich.

Business Traveller reviewed Ruby Lucy close to London’s Waterloo station in 2020, and will be visiting the recently opened Ruby Zoe in Notting Hill Gate later this month, with a review to follow online in due course.

Commenting on the news Elena Guenther-Jakobs, senior manager development at Ruby, said:

“We are very excited to enter the Scandinavian market with this unique project and bring our Lean Luxury philosophy to Stockholm.

“By designing and building modularly, centralising more and automating consistently behind the scenes, we are making luxurious and unique hotel experiences affordable for our guests, while creating a leaner and more adaptable cost structure, which in turn means lower risks for our property partners.

“Entering the Swedish market marks a significant milestone for us. We are thankful for our partner Alecta Fastigheter’s trust and great cooperation. Our focus is now on growth and establishing a strong presence in Sweden and across Scandinavia.”

In other news the group has opened its seventh workspace in Europe, with the unveiling of Ruby Ninu in Malta. The 1,090 sqm facility is located in the Pendergardens complex in St. Julian’s, and features private offices as well as 125 workspaces and amenities including barista coffee, tea, fresh fruit and internet connecitivity.
