Etihad Airways and TAP Air Portugal have agreed a strategic codeshare which went into effect from 5 December, 2023.

Etihad customers will now have one-stop access to several destinations across the TAP network including Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil, as well as San Francisco and Miami in the US.

Also now available to Etihad customers as part of this codeshare is access to the African resort island of São Tomé and connections to Madeira, Malaga, Seville, and Valencia in Europe, as well as Marrakech and Dakar in Africa.

“This collaboration provides our guests with convenient one-stop access to 26 of TAP’s fantastic leisure and business destinations. Equally, it expands the choices available to TAP customers travelling from Europe to Abu Dhabi, offering them the opportunity to seamlessly connect to a selection of our destinations in the GCC and Seychelles. Widening our network reach, allowing more guests to visit Abu Dhabi, is an important part of our strategic growth,” said Arik De, Etihad’s chief revenue officer.

The codeshare lets guests make a single booking with one check-in process at the start and have their baggage transferred to their final destination.

Etihad and TAP customers can connect to each other’s network through Frankfurt and London Heathrow.

Etihad recently expanded its European network by introducing a new direct service between Abu Dhabi and Lisbon in July.

Also, in September, Air France-KLM and Etihad announced plans to significantly expand their codeshare agreement, with more than 40 new routes covering destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Australia. More recently, they launched the next stage of that partnership, with the ability for frequent flyer members to earn and redeem points across programmes.
