Biman Bangladesh Airlines is starting nonstop three times a week Dhaka-Tokyo Narita on 1 September, the Japanese airport said in a media release.

Operated by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, the route will be an overnight service from Dhaka to Narita and a day flight from Narita to Dhaka.

It will be the first time in almost 17 years nonstop flights connecting Tokyo and Dhaka have been scheduled, the airport said.

Flights depart Dhaka as BG376 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2345 and arrive in Narita at 0915 the following morning. The return BG377 service departs Narita every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 1100, landing in Dhaka at 1500 local time.

Biman will operate a 787-8 on Dhaka-Narita. These come in a dual-class configuration with 24 lie-flat business class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration, and 247 economy class seats in a 3-3-3 setup.

“The new Dhaka route is expected to improve customer convenience, contribute to deepening ties between the two countries and build economic activities.

“Narita Airport will continue to expand its network to offer customers a more convenient selection of destinations.”

Separately, Biman will resume service on Dhaka-Guangzhou from 14 September.

Flights to Guangzhou will be three times a week with dual-class Boeing 737-800 narrowbody aircraft.

They leave Dhaka every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 2220 for a 0400 arrival into Guangzhou. They return every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 0530, arriving back in Dhaka at 0720 local time.

China Southern Airlines and Dhaka-based US-Bangla Airlines also fly between Dhaka and Guangzhou. In the case of China Southern, the SkyTeam member currently deploys its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on its redeye route to Dhaka.
