The Fifth Avenue Hotel is set to open in New York’s Nomad district this October, with 153 guest rooms and suites, many of which will offer private terraces.

Located steps away from Madison Square Park, the new property comprises a historic building known as The Mansion and a new 24-storey glass tower.

The glamorous new destination is the result of a seven-year restoration project, undertaken by owner Alex Ohebshalom, a real-estate entrepreneur, and an impressive creative team.

Interiors have been led by renowned interior designer Martin Brudnizki, famous for luxury projects such as Annabel’s, The Beekman and the upcoming Broadwick Soho hotel in London. The design has been inspired by the history and heritage of The Mansion with references to old-school glamour and an eclectic private residence.

Highlights include a sweeping marble lobby lined with antique mirror-panelled walls, bold contemporary furniture and bookcases that resemble 19th century black lacquered Chinese cabinets. There will also be gilded detailing, Murano glass chandeliers, and “Storyboard corridors” decorated in ikat fabrics or scenic wall coverings to “tell the adventures of a prolific art collector”.

Food and drink options will be overseen by Chef Andrew Carmellini (from the likes of Locanda Verde and The Dutch). Venues will include signature restaurant Cafe Carmellini and the Portrait Bar. There will also be The Study and the Wine Vault for intimate settings, plus an outdoor terrace.

The Mansion Ballroom will offer 260 sqm of space, with original architectural detailing, coffered ceilings and a colour palette of blue and gold accents.

The independent property is part of The Leading Hotels of the World. Rates will start from US$895 per night (£705).
