In its latest schedule update, Lufthansa scheduled its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on the Frankfurt-Mumbai route from 29 October.
For now, the 787-9 will operate the daily LH756 rotation until 14 January, which is when the Boeing 747-400 will once again fly the Frankfurt to Mumbai service.
Until now, Lufthansa’s 787-9 operations were heavily focused on North America, including 787-9 flights to Austin, Detroit, Newark, Dallas, Denver and Montreal.
The 787-9 is Lufthansa’s latest long-haul aircraft.
Boeing data through 31 July shows that the German airline has 34 additional 787-9s in its orderbook.
Until these arrive, Lufthansa inducted five initial 787-9s that were initially destined for Hainan Airlines.
This initial batch features different interiors than those aircraft in the pipeline which will be customised with Lufthansa’ upcoming new Allegris business class.
The Frankfurt-Mumbai route will see one of these initial five 787-9s deployed. These seat 26 in business class across a 1-2-1 configuration; 21 in premium economy across a 2-4-2 configuration; and 247 in standard economy across a 3-3-3 layout.
In other Lufthansa Asia-Pacific schedule updates, also from 29 October, the Star Alliance founding member will increase Munich-Osaka to daily operations, up from three times a week currently. The A350-900 is flying Munich-Osaka.
As previously announced, the Airbus A380 will take over from the A350-900 on the daily Munich-Bangkok rotation, commencing 28 October.
Furthermore, the A340-600 will continue operating the daily Frankfurt-Hong Kong service this winter. The route was initially set to be downgraded to the smaller A340-300.
