Omani airline Salam Air has signed a deal for three new Airbus A330 neo aircraft.

These will be the carrier’s first widebody aircraft and Salam Air says it will operate them on longer flights to the Asia-Pacific and Europe.

Salam Air is based in the Omani capital of Muscat and it competes with flag carrier Oman Air.

With the A330 neo, the airline is evolving from its budget carrier business model to also include a premium cabin upfront.

Salam Air will lease its first three A330 neo from Avolon, an international aircraft leasing company.

First delivery is expected later this year, in October.

Salam Air’s current fleet includes smaller A320 neo and A321 neo aircraft, and the airline also has placed an order for six Embraer E195-E2 regional jets with deliveries from 2024.

The airline’s current network includes flights from its Muscat base to destinations including Prague, Phuket and Colombo.

From July, Salam Air will launch flights to Kuala Lumpur and Almaty.

Salam Air’s incoming A330 neo aircraft will feature a dual-class configuration with 365 economy seats and 12 premium flatbed seats.

“The decision to introduce the Airbus A330neo complements the existing fleet of Airbus aircraft, which includes the A320neo, A321neo, and an A321 freighter. By adding the A330neo to the fleet, SalamAir aims to enhance its capacity, meet the growing demands of the market, and attract more inbound tourists, aligning with the objectives of Oman’s Vision 2040.

The extended range of the A330neo will allow SalamAir to efficiently serve medium-range destinations, particularly in the Far East and Europe. This expanded reach not only improves passenger convenience but also enhances the airline’s competitiveness in the market. It enables SalamAir to strengthen its network and seize opportunities for further growth and expansion,” commented airline CEO, Capt. Mohamed Ahmed.
