Salam Air will become the first Omani carrier to operate direct flights to the Czech Republic when it commences services to Prague next month.

Starting November 4, the carrier will operate one weekly direct flight each from two cities in Oman – Muscat and Salalah – to Prague.

Its non-stop flight to Prague departs every Friday from Muscat and every Wednesday from Salalah.

OV801 will depart on Fridays at 3.45pm from Muscat and land in Prague at 8.15pm. On Wednesdays, OV804 will operate a direct service departing Prague at 9.35pm and landing in Muscat at 6.55am.

OV803 meanwhile will take off from Salalah at 3.30pm on Wednesdays and land in the Czech capital at 8.35pm. OV802 departs from Prague at 9.15pm on Fridays and lands in Salalah at 7.25am.

The Czech Republic is the carrier’s second destination in Europe. The airline commenced operations in 2017 and currently operates a fleet of A320neo and A321neo aircraft.

It flies to domestic destinations, including Muscat, Salalah, and Suhar, and international destinations including Dubai, Doha, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Kuwait, Bahrain, Sarajevo, Istanbul, Trabzon, Bursa, Kathmandu, Baku, Phuket, Prague, Shiraz, Tehran, Alexandria, Khartoum, Multan, Sialkot, Karachi, Dhaka, Chattogram, Jaipur, Trivandrum, and Lucknow.

It operates direct services from Suhar to Shiraz, Salalah and Calicut, and Trabzon and from Salalah to Calicut.

“We are very excited to connect Oman with the capital city of the Czech Republic. The new connection creates an excellent opportunity for the citizen of the Czech Republic to explore the warm weather in Oman and visit one of the most popular attraction sites in Muscat and Salalah, which support Oman’s 2040 vision,” said Captain Mohamed Ahmed, CEO of Salam Air.

Jaroslav Filip, Aviation Business Director of Travel Marketing International, GSA for Salam Air, added, “The connection from the Czech Republic to Salalah in Oman clearly has strong tourist potential. Moreover, in the case of the direct Muscat route, we can also see its business potential, and the possibility of transfers to more distant destinations in the Middle East and Asia. We expect that SalamAir could transport up to 9,000 passengers in one direction between Oman and the Czech Republic during the winter operational season. Until now, destinations in Oman have mainly been operated from Prague by seasonal charter flights.”

There has been a recent surge in travel across Oman’s airports. The total number of passengers travelling through Oman’s airports from January-July 2022 has increased 187 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year. Inbound, outbound and transit passengers in the airports of Muscat, Salalah, Sohar and Duqm reached 4,907,599 by the end of July 2022.
