Taiwanese premium carrier Starlux Airlines has commenced daily flights between its Taipei base and Sendai in northeastern Japan.

The new route is operated by Airbus A321 neo aircraft in a dual-class configuration seating 188 passengers, including eight in business class and 180 in economy class.

Each seat in business class is equipped with a 15.6-inch 1080p inflight entertainment system screen and can transform into an 82-inch fully flat bed. Starlux serves gourmet meals alongside Bollinger champagne in business.

Economy class passengers get 32 inches of legroom and personal 10.1-inch 720p screens.

Wi-Fi service is provided in both classes.

The new Sendai flights depart Taipei’s Taoyuan International at 1140 and arrive at their destination at 1600. They take off again at 1720 and arrive back in the Taiwanese capital at 2010 local time.

Starlux competes against Taiwanese flag carrier China Airlines (CAL) and EVA Air.

Launched in 2020, the airline brands itself as “a luxury airline based in Taipei”. The airline is now serving 15 Asian destinations: Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Okinawa, Sapporo, Sendai, Macau, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hanoi, Manila, and Cebu.

From April 26 Starlux will offer its first trans-Pacific service, a new Airbus A350-900 route to Los Angeles including first class service alongside business and economy.

Starlux now has 20 aircraft in its ultra-modern fleet – 13 A321 neos, four A330 neos and three A350-900s.
