Hyatt will debut its Destination by Hyatt brand in the UK with the addition of Schloss Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course in Scotland.

The luxury country estate dates from the 12th century and was formerly owned by the Duke of Roxburghe.

Located an hour’s drive from both Edinburgh and Newcastle airports, the historic estate and its stately grounds will see the addition of 58 rooms and suites and 12 cottages by late 2022. An additional 49 cottages will successively open by 2024.

Felicity Black-Roberts, Hyatt’s vice president of development, Europe, commented:

“Schloss Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course is a property of distinction and an exciting milestone for the growth of the Destination by Hyatt portfolio in the region.”

The Destination by Hyatt brand comprises a collection of luxury and upscale independent hotels, resorts and residences “that are all individual at heart, yet connected by a commitment to embody the true spirit of each location”.

As such, the new opening will include fire-lit lounges and bars decorated with the Duke’s original tartan, alongside contemporary finishes such as stone and wood textures and natural colour palettes.

The rooms and suites will be spread across three areas, with 20 individual rooms and suites in the main historic house 58 rooms and suites in the Estate House; and 61 cottages fitted with kitchens, living areas and patios overlooking the estate’ grounds.

Leisure facilities will include a 600 sqm spa with two saunas and an outdoor infinity pool. The hotel will also offer a range of sporting activities including walks in the region’s remote wilderness, archery, tomahawk throwing and clay-pigeon shooting, as well as teeing off at the property’s Championship-grade golf course.

Dining venues will include two restaurants, three bars and two lounges offering home-grown, locally sourced and seasonal Scottish produce, as well as a purpose-built banqueting suite. Additionally, it will house four meeting spaces with up to 157 sqm of space.

Hyatt has entered into a franchise agreement with the German 12.18 Group for the property, marking its third project with the company following 7Pines Resort Sardinia and 7Pines Resort Ibiza.

“Our latest collaboration with the 12.18. Group is a testament to the value Hyatt places on nurturing meaningful, strategic relationships with owners to create luxury hotels and resorts in sought-after destinations that matter to our guests and World of Hyatt members. The desire for travel in the luxury segment remains steadfast, and this project is set to cater to luxury travelers, both international and locals alike, in one of the country’s most exquisite locations.”

This property will be the second Hyatt-branded property in Scotland, following the recently announced Hyatt Centric Edinburgh Haymarket.
