Accor has unveiled plans for an Shanghai urban resort under its luxury Sofitel brand, in partnership with the Shanghai Xinguang Technology Development Group.
The 293-room Sofitel Shanghai South will offer views of Huangpu River and the conservation forests of new Zhuanghang Town, and is set to open in 2025.
The development will be located around 40km from downtown Shanghai, and 30km from Shanghai Hongqiao airport, with Shanghai Pudong International airport around an hour from the resort.
The group said that the low-rise property would feature “the brand’s signature modern French style, deftly blended with rich Shanghainese traditional culture, with rooms offering private balconies.
Facilities will include an infinity pool, rooftop bar, restaurant and event space, designed around an urban farm concept which will also feature a produce garden for the hotel.
There will also be an executive lounge, fitness centre, and a ground level garden which can be used for weddings, concerts and events overlooking the Huangpu River. The hotel’s design will be inspired by the silka deer found in the surrounding forests.
Sofitel currently counts 22 properties across greater China, and last year Accor announced plans for the Sofitel Shanghai North Bund.
Commenting on the news Huang Shangwei, Chairman, Shanghai Xinguang Technology Development Group, said:
“With our long history of developing and managing hotels, we have undergone numerous studies and verifications of project site selections and future development prospects, and none have been as compelling or rare as our site for Sofitel Shanghai South in Zhuanghang Town.
“Our collaboration with Accor has opened up exciting new opportunities, combining our Shanghainese culture with Sofitel’s inimitable French style. Sofitel Shanghai South will surely become a modern classic that shines by the Huangpu River.”
