Dutch hotel brand Citizen M has opened an additional property in Washington DC.
The 296-room Citizen M Washington DC NoMa, located north of Massachusetts Avenue, joins the brand’s existing hotel in the city’s Capitol Hill area.
The hotel was designed by the brand’s architectural partner Concrete and features commissioned artwork by local artists, inspired by ‘The United Colors of Washington’.
Hannah Whitaker’s Circulations mural is wrapped around the facade of the hotel, while the interior features her Vibrations work, featuring dark stripes and flares of colour. Rooms, meanwhile, include contemporary works by local artists including Andy Yonder, Charles Jean Pierre, Melvin Nesbitt, Nekisha Durrett and Tim Doud.
Rooms include XL king-size wall-to-wall beds, and LED/LCD widescreen TV with streaming capabilities, free high-speed wifi and an iPad to control the lighting, blinds and TV. Bathrooms, meanwhile, include a rain shower and full-sized toiletries.
Public areas feature furnishings by the brand’s furniture partner, Vitra, and facilities include three meeting rooms, a shop and a Canteen M dining area with 24-hour grab-and-go products.
Robin Chadha, chief marketing officer, commented:
“We’re thrilled to be part of NoMa’s growth with the addition of Citizen M Washington DC NoMa. With a curated selection of artwork by local Washington-based artists and our proximity to the best the city has to offer in terms of galleries, museums, boutiques, restaurants and bars, etc., we’re excited to be able to provide guests and visitors alike with an unparalleled and culturally robust experience both in and out of the hotel.”
Close to attractions including Union Market, it is also a 25-minute drive from Reagan airport and adjacent to the NoMa-Gallaudet U New York Avenue metro station.
The brand launched in 2008, and now counts 29 hotels in its portfolio, including in US cities such as Boston, New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and most recently Chicago.
By 2024, the brand hopes to reach 40 operational properties globally, with hotels currently under development in Miami and Austin, bringing the total to 30 locations by the end of the year.
