American Express has opened its lounges at Sydney and Melbourne airports, following the recent reopening of Australia’s borders to fully vaccinated travellers.
The Sydney lounge is located near to gates 50-63 in T1, and is now open daily from 0600 to 2200, while the Melbourne facility (located in the satellite departure level in T2) is also open daily from 0600 to 2300.
Note that “In accordance with relevant state and national government health orders, only fully vaccinated passengers are permitted for entry to the American Express Lounge at Melbourne Airport”.

Guests are required to wear face masks while in the lounges, except when eating or drinking, and food is currently being offered from a serviced buffet, “plated and served by an American Express Representative”.
The Sydney and Melbourne spaces are currently branded as American Express Lounges, but it is understood both facilities are to be rebranded under the group’s Centurion Lounge offering later this year.
American Express also confirmed that for cardholders whose membership entitles them to two American Express Lounge entries per calendar year, these entries have now been extended until June 30, 2022 if they weren’t used in 2021.
This extension does not affect the two entries received for 2022, which will be available as normal.
