Ruby Hotels has extended its joint venture with the Betterwood Hotel Group, with a goal to “rapidly expand Ruby’s presence in Asia”.

The Munich-based group has established Ruby Hotels Asia Ltd, and plans to open properties in Chinese cities including Shanghai, Chengdu, Zhuhai, Hangzhou, Haiyan, Wulumuqi, Xining and Nanjin.

Ruby said that “most of the hotels are existing properties that are being converted under the guidance of Ruby’s design team”, and will follow the group’s “lean luxury” philosophy of “a location in the heart of the city, top design, and quality amenities with the essentials”.

The Ruby Hotels brand launched in 2013, and currently operates 12 properties in locations including London, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Zurich.

The group has a further 19 hotels either under construction or in the planning phase, and recently announced plans to debut in Italy in 2023, with a 118-room hotel occupying a 19th century building on the Piazza della Liberta in Florence.
