IHG Hotels and Resorts is set to open a Holiday Inn Express property at Rome Fiumicino Airport.

The hotel company has signed a franchised agreement with Borealis Hotel Group to open Holiday Inn Express Rome – Airport in 2023.

The 224-room hotel will debut the brand’s next-generation design in Italy, which features free wifi, powerful showers and a complimentary Express Start breakfast.

The hotel will be situated in the Parco Leonardo shopping and business centre with a dedicated metro stop, convenient access to Fiumicino Rome International airport and located a 20 minute train journey to the inner city.

IHG Hotels and resorts is currently expanding its Holiday Inn Express brand at airport locations, with properties set to open at Turkey’s Ankara airport in 2022, and at Madrid and Seville airports in 2023.

Additionally, the brand recently opened a hotel at Dublin airport in partnership with JMK Group, and a dual-branded Holiday Inn Express and Crowne Plaza property in France’s Nice.

Willemijn Geels, Vice President Development Europe at IHG Hotels and Resorts, commented:

“Holiday Inn Express Rome – Airport is a great addition to the existing presence IHG Hotels & Resorts has within the city. There is such a great travel and construction appetite for Rome, with this signing alongside another two monumental signings within our Luxury & Lifestyle collection of brands; InterContinental Rome and Six Senses Rome.

“The accessibility to the airport and the surrounding areas means that Holiday Inn Express Rome – Airport becomes the bridge between local and international guests who are visiting this historical city. This signing shows the continued trust our owners and partners place in IHG Hotels & Resorts and our brands. We are excited to continue and build our partnership with Borealis Hotel Group and open what will be a great hotel in a great market.”

The hotel will be developed by the Leonardo Caltagirone Group.
