Luxury brand Bulgari Hotels and Resorts plans to open a hotel in Los Angeles in 2025, marking its second property in the United States.

The brand has signed an agreement with owner and developer Gary Safady for a luxury resort in LA, which will open the year after the Miami Beach hotel in 2024.

The Bulgari Resort Los Angeles will be located within 33 acres of a hillside park in the Santa Monica Mountains, less than five miles from Rodeo Drive. It is set to comprise 58 rooms and suites, many of which will be located in bungalows on the eastern half of the property, and eight residential properties ranging from 12,000 to 47,000 sq ft – the latter will be on sale “in the near feature” and will also have private land ranging from one to five acres.

The resort’s architecture will be inspired by the surrounding natural environment and designed by South African firm SAOTA, while Milan-based firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel (designer of the other hotels in the brand) will bring Italian design to the hotel’s interiors. Meanwhile, the landscape design will be created by Swiss landscape architect firm Enea, the brains behind the Bulgari Hotel Beijing garden.

Facilities will include a 10,000 sqft spa, a gym, and a cinema. Dining facilities will include the signature Bulgari Il Ristorante – Niko Romito, and an eight-seat sushi bar.

On the sustainability side, the resort will be built in line with environmental criteria certified by LEED and will only use the “highest sustainable building practises” to ensure minimal environmental impact. Additionally, the company will preserve hundreds of old-growth and native canopy trees, and also plant approximately 1,000 additional mature trees to provide shade and habitat for the wildlife.

The project is currently subject to approval by the City Council and Planning Authorities of LA.

Bulgari’s CEO Jean-Christophe Babin said:

“We are extremely happy and proud to announce the signing of definitive agreements to develop the new Bulgari Resort in Los Angeles, the capital of cinema and art which has always been a major Bulgari inspiration from the time of Liz Taylor to the most recent Academy Awards. The new Bulgari gem represents an extraordinary achievement for the brand to establish in such a key destination for the luxury industry.”

Bulgari Resort Los Angeles’ developer Gary Safady added:

“We are delighted to partner with Bulgari Hotels & Resorts to bring the most sophisticated and luxurious retreat to Los Angeles. Bulgari is the epitome of luxury lifestyle, and we look forward to creating an unparalleled experience of indoor/outdoor living through our enclave of suites, bungalows and private homes that truly embrace and support the surrounding environment and wildlife.”

“As part of our ongoing commitment to the City of Los Angeles, the surrounding community and the environment, we will be supporting several non-profit initiatives in Los Angeles, including but not limited to, a seven-figure contribution as part of our effort to ensure this project continues its focus of using business as a force for good.”

Bulgari Hotels and Resorts was launched in 2001 as a joint venture between the luxury Italian brand and hotel group Marriott International. The brand currently has six hotels in Milan, London, Dubai, Shanghai, Beijing and Bali.

The group is undergoing a period of expansion, with properties to follow in Paris in 2021, Moscow and Rome in 2022, and Tokyo in 2023.
