Icelandair has partnered with global insurance tech company Cover Genius to offer its customers Covid-19 medical coverage.

Customers can now purchase XCover’s ‘Covid Plus’ Medical Cover when booking flights with Icelandair, with the coverage incorporated into the airline’s booking process for flights in Europe. This will be rolled out to the Americas and Canada “soon”. The airline states that the cover is “dynamically priced” and “tailored to the actual booking of the individual customer”.

The ‘Covid Plus’ Medical Cover ensures that travellers are covered for medical treatment, hospital stays and associated costs when they have an injury or illness such as Covid-19; repatriation if necessary; travel costs to help a family member join the traveller, if required; flights to another country for treatment, if required; and access to 24/7 worldwide emergency assistance.

The airline states, however, that customers should check policy inclusions when they receive a quote as coverage may differ depending on the country.

Once customers have completed the flight booking, they will receive an email confirmation from which they can create an account to “access their policy documentation, make modifications and create claims.” According to the airline, customers can receive instant payments in over 90 currencies.

Cover Genius (which owns XCover) has published a video outlining the process:

Birna Osk Einarsdottir, CCO of Sales and Customer experience at Icelandair, commented:

“As a leading international airline, our mission is to offer our passengers the best services both on the ground and in the air. Our integration of Cover Genius’ XCover platform into our booking process means we can now offer our passengers and their travel partners peace of mind during their travel.”

“We are proud to partner with Cover Genius, a customer centric brand by bringing an end-to-end solution and world-leading technology to overcome traditional insurance barriers”.

Peter Smith, Head of Travel Partnerships, EMEA at Cover Genius, added:

“We are very excited to partner with Icelandair, a leading airline with its hub in Keflavík, Iceland with substantial US bookings, who prioritise their customers’ safety and loyalty through the use of our XCover platform and we look forward to expanding our relationship to restore confidence for travellers all over the world.”
