With the news that Italy’s Trenitalia is handing Frecciarossa and Frecciargento passengers free safety kits, perhaps we might see the same with our Avanti West Coast ?

I say that because Avanti West Coast is a JV between First Group and Trenitalia. It operates prime inter city services linking London with the West Midlands, the Northwest and Scotland.

Now back to Italy.

Trenitalia’s  safety kit is provided to all passengers.  It consists of hand sanitising gel, latex gloves and disposable headrests.

Italy’s main rail operator says “this is a further prophylaxis measure for the protection of health on board trains where the use of a mask, as in all enclosed spaces, remains mandatory.”

Frecciarossa are Trenitalia’s HS (high speed) trains and these are the equivalent of SNCF’s TGVs or Spain’s AVEs.

Frecciargento are Trenitalia’s intercity services.

The rail operator says that onboard staff are constantly cleaning and sanitizing the trains’ interiors during the journey.

Disinfectant gel dispensers are also provided on board.

Following the lockdown Trenitalia is increasing its Frecciarossa service from 18 to 38 daily.   The number of inter city services has more than tripled from six to 20.
