No plans to extend lockdown: Indian cabinet

India is currently under a 21-day lockdown (from March 25) as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24.

However, there have been many floating rumours that this lockdown may be extended.

Dispelling these false reports, cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba said that there are no such plans to extend this three-week lockdown. “Iā€™m surprised to see such reports, there is no such plan of extending the lockdown,” he said.

Press Information Bureau, the Nodal agency for communicating to media on behalf of Government of India, clarified the same in the following Tweet.Ā 

The total count of Covid-19 cases in India has crossed the 1,000 mark (and 27 deaths) as of March 30.

Yesterday, the central government has ordered sealing of all state and district borders to check community transmission of the virus by migrant workers, who have been trying to cross borders in massive numbers to reach their home towns.

Those who have already left are now in quarantine for two weeks.

Essential services like groceries and are operational during the lockdown period.
