The Lufthansa Group has announced an extension of its change fee waiver policy as the disruption to aviation caused by the coronavirus pandemic intensifies.

Passengers with tickets for Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Air Dolomiti flights now have until August 31, 2020 to change their travel date (up to and including December 31, 2020) or destination.

Anyone with tickets for a cancelled flight can use the ticket value for a new trip up to and including December 31, 2020.

The group also said it would offer a discount of 50 euros on every rebooking.

Passengers will still have to pay any additional difference in fare.

There is also no change of policy for refunds.

The group said its customer service operators are currently dealing with a high number of calls, and that people did not need to contact a representative to rebook before their flight date.

Rebookings can only currently be made through customer service agents or travel agencies, but an option through the various carrier websites is currently “under development”.

The Lufthansa Group is currently flying just 63 of its fleet of 763 aircraft, and member carriers Austrian AirlinesBrussels Airlines and Air Dolomiti have all suspended regular operations.
