Russian flag carrier Aeroflot will introduce a new, cheaper fare for business and premium economy class tickets on March 4.

The “Base fare” tickets will be non-refundable, but business class will still include benefits such as seat pre-selection, lounge access and one checked bag up to 32kg.

Premium economy, which Aeroflot calls Comfort Class, will include seat pre-selection and one checked bag up to 23kg.

The tickets will also be available on Aeroflot subsidiaries Rossiya and Aurora, with some exceptions.

“We continuously analyse feedback from key passenger groups, as well as global trends, in order to consistently improve our fares,” said Andrey Chikhanchin, deputy CEO for commerce and finance at Aeroflot.

“The new fare group will complement and expand our existing offering.

“The Base fare is designed for passengers who prefer to precisely plan their travel, appreciate comfort and premium service, while at the same time are price-conscious.”

Airlines are increasingly ‘unbundling’ their tickets, both to entice passengers with lower fares and to add ancillary charges. Yesterday, Virgin Atlantic announced that its business class passengers will no longer get complimentary ground transfers from July 1.

Emirates has gone further, introducing various business class fares separating services such as lounge access, seat pre-selection and chauffeurs.

Aeroflot recently took delivery of its first A350 aircraft, featuring a brand-new business class seat. Take a look here:
