Cathay Pacific will expand its codeshare partnership with both Lufthansa and Swiss International Air Lines (Swiss) to cover flights to Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich from Hong Kong, effective July 17.

The Hong Kong flag carrier will place its “CX” code on Lufthansa’s daily Hong Kong-Frankfurt and Hong Kong-Munich services, while the German flag carrier will place its “LH” code on Cathay Pacific’s daily flight between Hong Kong and Frankfurt.

The expanded codeshare agreement gives passengers travelling with Cathay Pacific access to non-stop flights between Hong Kong and Munich, as well as additional daily flights to Frankfurt and Zurich.

Members of Asia Miles, Cathay Pacific’s rewards programme, will be eligible to earn and redeem miles when travelling on the above codeshare routes, while members of Marco Polo Club, the carrier’s loyalty programme, will also be able to earn Club Points when travelling on codeshare flights marketed by Cathay Pacific and operated by Lufthansa Group.

Tickets for the new codeshare flights are now available for purchase for travel from July 17.

Lufthansa and Swiss both belong to the Lufthansa Group. Both airlines have had a codeshare partnership with Cathay Pacific since 2017, covering some European routes operated by Lufthansa and Swiss, as well as select flights to Australia and New Zealand operated by Cathay.

According to the information on Cathay Pacific’s official website, in addition to the new codeshare routes, Cathay Pacific and Lufthansa also codeshare on Lufthansa flights between Frankfurt and Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Dresden, Hannover, Hamburg, Munich, Nuremberg, Oslo and Stuttgart; and Cathay Pacific flights between Hong Kong and Auckland, Cairns, Melbourne and Sydney.

Meanwhile, besides the new Hong Kong-Zurich codeshare service, the codeshare agreement between Cathay Pacific and Swiss also covers Swiss flights between Zurich and Berlin, Brussels, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Venice, Florence and Geneva, as well as flights between Hong Kong and Auckland, Cairns, Melbourne and Sydney operated by Cathay Pacific.

Business Traveller Asia-Pacific recently reported that Cathay Pacific has teased the launch of a “new business class experience” sometime later this year, with potential new perks in long-haul business and first class starting in this October.

Meanwhile, its subsidiary Cathay Dragon has launched a new codeshare partnership with American Airlines, covering four new routes in the Asia-Pacific region.
