It’s been six months since Airbus first announced it would be launching an augmented reality “iflyA380” mobile app exclusively for iOS users, but now users of Android devices are finally able to also download a version of the app that is compatible with their operating systems.

The Android version of the iflyA380 app offers many of the same features as its iOS counterpart, including the ability for users to search for and book flights offered by more than 30 airlines that are operated by the Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft, a popular aircraft among passengers.

The app also allows users to explore the inside of the aircraft, the cockpit and their destination airport using virtual and augmented reality.

Both the iOS and Android apps are an extension of the aircraft manufacturer’s dedicated A380 booking website iflyA380.com, which it launched in 2016.

Airbus has seen a slowdown in orders of its double-decker superjumbo in recent years, with speculation mounting earlier this year that the A380 programme would be in danger of termination if Airbus wasn’t able to secure much-needed orders.

However in January, the superjumbo’s largest operator, Emirates, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to acquire up to 36 more A380s starting in 2020, ensuring the programme’s continuation for about the next 10 years.

Last month, Emirates launched its own 3D virtual reality service allowing passengers to view the seating products on board its A380 aircraft.
