Emirates has launched a new 3D virtual reality service allowing users to view the seating products onboard its A380 aircraft.

The online technology enables users to navigate through the carrier’s interior cabins, view Emirates’ A380 economy and business class seats and first class suites from various angles, find out more about the features of the seating, and even take a look inside the carrier’s first class onboard showers.

Customers can also use virtual reality headsets such as Google Cardboard to enjoy a hands free experience of the technology, which has been created in partnership with VR specialists Renacen.

Passengers accessing emirates.com via their mobile device or the Emirates app can use the technology to explore seat options before checking in, with the ability to navigate from one seat to another, and to book preferred seats from within the 3D environment.

The service has initially been made available for Emirates’ three-class A380 aircraft, but will soon expand to include all configurations of the airline’s A380 and B777 fleet.

Commenting on the launch Alex Knigge, Emirates’ senior vice president, corporate communications, marketing and brand (digital), said:

“As we continually invest to provide our customers with an unmatched travel experience onboard and on the ground, we also work very hard to give our customers a world-class digital experience.

We are pleased to be the world’s first airline to introduce this cutting edge web VR technology, which offers our customers an immersive opportunity to learn more about the fantastic Emirates experience before they step on board.

“In our usability tests with customers, we found that they particularly appreciated the 3D seat and cabin models when selecting their seats.”
