Jet Airways and Aeromexico sign codeshare agreement

Jet Airways and Aeromexico codeshare

India’s full-service airline, Jet Airways and Mexico’s flag carrier, Aeromexico have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that includes codeshare flights and frequent flyer programs.

The MoU details codes on each other’s services between India and Mexico via London Heathrow, Paris Charles De Gaulle and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

For starters, Jet Airways will place its code “9W” on Aeromexico flights from London Heathrow to Mexico City. Aeromexico will place its code “AM” on Jet Airways flights from London Heathrow to Mumbai and New Delhi.

Through this, passengers of both airlines can enjoy onward connections to other Indian and Mexican cities. They will also have a wider choice of destinations accessible to them on a single ticket, through the codeshare agreement.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Naresh Goyal, the chairman of Jet Airways, said, “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Aeromexico, which will significantly enhance the international reach of both airlines bringing increased benefits to all our guests. We are confident that this new codeshare partnership will stimulate the demand for business and tourist travel between India and Mexico. The new relationship between Jet Airways and Aeromexico illustrates our commitment as well as strategic efforts to continuously strengthen our network, connecting India with the rest of the world as well as providing opportunity and convenience to our guests who can now connect to Mexico from India via our European gateways and vice versa.”

Andres Conesa, CEO of Aeromexico added, “It is a great pleasure for us to settle this code share partnership with Jet Airways that will build new bridges and connect Mexico to India more easily. This achievement is a manifest of our will to continuously offer new flight destinations to our passengers. Also, by connecting with an important country as India, Aeromexico creates new cultural bonds and tourism exchange between both nations”.

The codeshare flights will begin via London Heathrow. Flight tickets under the agreement will open for sale later this year and can be purchased through the two airlines’ sales offices, websites and call centres.

Jet Airways links with Virgin Atlantic for India-US service

Jet Airways

Jet Airways and Virgin Atlantic expand codeshare partnership

Now includes onward travel destinations from London Heathrow to nine destinations in north America and the Indian sub-continent.

Jet Airways and Virgin Atlantic have announced their existing codeshare agreement has been expanded. From April 19, 2017, Jet Airways passengers travelling between India and the US can connect through London Heathrow on to nine U.S. destinations operated by Virgin Atlantic; Atlanta, Boston, Newark, Washington (IAD), New York, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco and Seattle*.

The existing codeshare agreement started in 2009 and saw Virgin Atlantic passengers able to travel on Jet Airways operated services between Mumbai and London Heathrow in addition to the airline’s own direct Delhi to London service. In 2015 this was extended on to Jet Airways domestic services so Virgin Atlantic passengers could fly from London Heathrow to five destinations across India via Delhi or Mumbai.

The new arrangement builds on the more extensive code share announced between Jet Airways and Delta in October of last year. That codeshare allows Jet Airways passengers to connect on to Delta operated services via London Heathrow to eighteen cities across the US, including Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, New York-JFK, Minneapolis, Portland, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, Austin, Charlotte, Columbus, Denver, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, San Diego, St. Louis and Tampa. In return, Delta passengers flying between North America and India can connect onto flights operated by Jet Airways to 20 destinations within India.  The Delta codeshare destinations include Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Goa, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Pune, Trivandrum and Vadodara. Likewise guests

“Delta’s codeshare with Jet Airways has seen positive growth in passenger numbers since we launched the agreement six months ago, reflecting the strong demand for air links between the United States and India,” said Nat Pieper, Delta’s senior vice president Europe, Middle East, Africa & India. “The introduction of this new codeshare, increases travel options even more and further supports the Delta-Virgin Atlantic relationship.”

Gaurang Shetty, Whole-time Director, Jet Airways, said, “Offering greater choice and connectivity to our guests has always been a hallmark of our network strategy. The new codeshares build on the success of our ongoing cooperation with Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic over London Heathrow and will provide our guests with more connectivity to and within the United States. Further, our loyalty program partnership will also enable the frequent flyers of both carriers to accrue and redeem their miles across each other’s entire network.”

Shai Weiss, Chief Commercial Officer for Virgin Atlantic, said: “We’re really pleased to extend our agreement with Jet Airways to offer customers even more choice when travelling between India and the US, via London Heathrow. From this week customers of both airlines can travel from five destinations across India with Jet Airways, and connect via London Heathrow to nine US destinations with Virgin Atlantic including Boston and Los Angeles, as well as many more US destinations with transatlantic partner Delta Airlines via key hubs such as New York and Atlanta. This innovative codeshare allows customers to tailor their journey using a combination of flights from Jet Airways, Virgin Atlantic and their transatlantic partner Delta Air Lines – whilst continuing to benefit from a single check in and bag drop.”

* Codeshare on Seattle opens for travel effective 1st May 2017.

Hong Kong Airlines and Jet Airways begin codeshare

Hong Kong Airlines and Jet Airways Ink Codeshare Agreement

Hong Kong Airlines and Mumbai-based carrier Jet Airways will begin codesharing on flights between Hong Kong and India and to destinations in Asia, enabling Hong Kong Airlines to provide a daily service connecting Hong Kong with Mumbai and Delhi.

The partnership will see Hong Kong Airlines place its HX code on Jet Airways flights between Hong Kong and Mumbai and Delhi. Meanwhile Jet Airways will place its 9W code on Hong Kong Airlines’ flights between Hong Kong and Okinawa, Denpasar, Hanoi, Bangkok and its recently launched Auckland service. Codeshare flights will begin being open for sale starting February 27 this year for travel on the same day.

Members of Jet Airways’ frequent flyer programme, Jet Privilege will also be able to earn miles when flying on these routes, which will become available for redemption and will also count towards earning tier status within Jet Privilege.

“From our observations, there has been great potential in the India market as increasing travellers from India tend to transit via Hong Kong to Japan, South East Asia and even farther to Auckland,” said Li Dianchun, CCO of Hong Kong Airlines.

“By connecting Hong Kong with Mumbai and Delhi, the new agreement enables passengers from these key cities to travel seamlessly to a bunch of popular destinations in Hong Kong Airlines’ network. On the other hand, our passengers can also access India easily for either business or leisure travel purposes.”

Jayaraj Shanmugam, CCO of Jet Airways, echoed the sentiment, noting that travel between India and the destinations that will form the codeshare has been on the up. “Both business and leisure travel between India and the destinations covered by this arrangement have been growing at a remarkable CAGR of 12 per cent over the past five years, on the back of sustained economic activity. We believe this partnership will further strengthen the choice available for our guests, especially to our first time codeshare destinations such as Okinawa in Japan and Auckland in New Zealand.”

Hong Kong Airlines is also due to begin operating services to Vancouver this year starting in June, along with rolling out its new business class seat product on its new Airbus A350-900 aircraft, the first of which it is due to receive in August.
