InterContinental Bangkok

Following a multimillion-dollar renovation that saw the transformation of its facilities and interiors, InterContinental Bangkok reopened on June 1, 2023.

The hotel, centrally located in the Ratchaprasong prime commercial and retail district, first opened its doors in 2003. It is close to the major shopping malls of Central World, Siam Paragon and Gaysorn Village. It is also across the road from Bangkok’s newest lifestyle shopping mall, Gaysorn Amarin. The famous Erawan Shrine and its statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of the Hindu god Brahma, are opposite the hotel.

InterContinental Bangkok is just a few metres away from Chit Lom BTS Skytrain station. Getting to other parts and the attractions of the city is easy: the hotel’s position in the heart of Bangkok and its excellent transport connections make it a favourite place to stay not only for tourists but also business people. Last year the property was awarded Thailand’s Leading Business Hotel by World Travel Awards.

All of the hotel’s 381 rooms and suites, which start on level 17, have undergone extensive refurbishment. They range from the 45 sqm Classic room, to the expansive 250 sqm Royal suite. The hotel also features 33 Junior suites at 67 sqm.

The rooms and suites, which command extensive views of the remarkable city skyline, place an emphasis on plentiful natural light and airiness, and feature touches such as custom-made furniture, wooden floors and textured carpets.

The bathrooms have walk-in rain showers as well as capacious bathtubs. Tech comes in the form of high-speed wifi throughout, latest generation IPTVs and Bluetooth, while art in the rooms is inspired by traditional Thai floral arrangements and the culture of gifting flowers.

Guests occupying Club rooms have access to the Club InterContinental Lounge. Located on Level 37, it provides Club guests with complimentary buffet breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails. Amenities include a range of business services as well as a private meeting room.

For those who require first-class MICE facilities, the hotel is home to some of the most tech-forward, spacious and versatile in the city. InterContinental Bangkok has 19 meeting rooms: the Grand Ballroom, for instance, can accommodate up to 1,000 guests in a cocktail style – ideal not only for large meetings but also weddings and receptions. Meanwhile, the hotel has a convention space that can host up to 2,000 visitors.

When business is done, it’s time to head for a meal or a relaxing drink. The hotel has no fewer than seven restaurants, lounges and bars. SoCal, for instance – and as the name suggests – is all about Californian dining culture, with dishes such as tuna tartare and fish tacos, and more substantial fare like Ranger’s Valley flat iron steaks.

Meanwhile, fine Cantonese fare is to be had at Summer Palace. Michelin-starred, Hong Kong native chef Yau presides over the proceedings here, with dishes such as wok-fried hokkaido scallops and shrimp with black bean sauce. The space has ten private dining rooms, with tables seating up to 20.

Those seeking relaxation may head to the Oasis swimming pool on the 37th floor, which has panoramic views over the city; it now sports a brand-new whirlpool. Drinks and snacks are on hand here, so the space makes for a great place to meet as well as swim.

Guests who want yet more relaxation can visit the SPA InterContinental, which has treatments by Thai company HARNN and London’s Elemis, with an emphasis on total relaxation and well-being focusing on the body, mind and spirit. More active guests can work out at the Infinity Fitness gym decked out with Technogym cardio, CrossFit and weight machines.
