Conrad Guangzhou is now open

Conrad Hotels and Resorts has opened its seventh hotel in China, the Conrad Guangzhou, in the city’s Zhujiang New Town central business district on the north side of the Pearl River.

The new hotel occupies 27 storeys overlooking the river, which can be seen from many of its 309 rooms and suites. The Guangdong Museum, Canton Tower and the Zaha Hadid-designed Guangzhou Opera House are all located nearby.

“Conrad Guangzhou perfectly reflects the city’s character – rich in tradition and culture, yet stands true to the brand in its smart luxury ethos,” said Conrad global head, John T A Vanderslice.

Rooms begin at 48sqm and feature walk-in wardrobes, Nespresso coffee machines, and shoe dryers, among other amenities. Meanwhile three F&B offerings are available serving Cantonese, international buffet, and Mediterranean cuisine. Afternoon tea is also available at Gem lounge and cocktails at Mg bar.

For corporate travellers, there’s also a 24-hour business centre with secretarial and administrative services, and for downtime guests can use the 25-metre indoor pool, spa or gym.

Hilton’s Greater China portfolio reaches 100 hotels

Hilton’s Greater China portfolio hit the 100-hotel mark today following the opening of the Hilton Quanzhou Riverside hotel, its debut Hilton Hotels and Resorts property in China’s Fujian province. The hotel is also the 40th property under the group’s flagship Hilton brand to open in Greater China.

Occupying 25 storeys and offering 296 rooms, the riverfront hotel is situated in Jinjiang’s central business district within Fujian’s largest metropolitan area, Quanzhou. The southeast China city is a key area for the corporate and leisure travel segments as well as the MICE sector.

The new Hilton is about eight kilometres from Quanzhou Jinjiang International Airport and 12 kilometres from Quanzhou Railway Station. Meanwhile its 296 rooms start at 40 sqm – claimed to be the largest in the district – with views over the river and city skyline views. The hotel’s executive lounge also offers 180-degree views of the city.

Leisure facilities include an indoor heated swimming pool with an underwater sound system, steam rooms, and a 24-hour fitness centre. Meanwhile the hotel’s meetings and events spaces comprise a total of 2,940 sqm including a 1,368-sqm pillarless ballroom. Three dining options offering western and Asian cuisine, traditional Chinese dishes, and afternoon tea and snacks, also feature at the new Hilton.

Hilton Garden Inn opens in Shanghai

Hilton has debuted its Hilton Garden Inn Brand in Shanghai, China.

The hotel has 226 rooms and suites, and is located in Qingpu district, a part of the new Hongqiao CBD. It is close to both the Hongqiao Train Station and Hongqiao International Airport, and can be reached in a ten-minute driving distance; while, Pudong International Airport is about an hour of drive away.

It stands near to the Hongqiao Integrated Transportation Hub, National Exhibition and Convention Centre, Shanghai Yintao Golf Club, as well as popular dining and shopping destinations such as Bailian Outlet Plaza Qingpu and The Hub.

The property has 500 sqm meeting and banquet space, and can accommodate up to 200 guests. It includes a 200 sqm pillarless multifunction room and four meeting rooms located on the same floor.

Hilton develops luxury resorts in remote Chinese locations

Hilton Hotels & Resorts will this year expand its luxury hospitality offerings within China by opening two resorts in remote regions famous for their fantastic natural splendour – a far cry from the country’s big cities or seaside destinations like Sanya or Xiamen.

Next month it will open the first Hilton-branded property in China’s Tibetan Autonomous Region. The Hilton Linzhi Resort is the only five-star international resort in the Nyingchi region of southeastern Tibet, a remote area that is 4-5 hours’ drive from Lhasa but has its own airport, receiving flights from a number of Chinese cities including Kunming, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

The resort has 220 rooms designed in Tibetan-Chinese style, and while providing standard facilities such as a 150 sqm indoor heated swimming pool, modern fitness centre and kids’ playground, it also offers a billiard hall, chess room, private cinema and indoor golf driving range (there is a nine-hole golf course nearby).

F&B options include an all-day dining restaurant serving international cuisine, Feast Chinese restaurant offering Tibetan, Sichuanese and Cantonese dishes, and a lobby lounge and bar with beautiful river views. Meeting facilities comprise 528 sqm of event space spread across four meeting rooms, a ballroom and foyer.

Situated 2,500 metres above sea level, the resort backs onto the Himalayan mountains and faces the Yarlung Zangbo (Yarlung Tsangpo) River. Within a few hours’ drive are a wide range of pristine natural wonders, from the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon (beyond which the river becomes the Brahmaputra) to picturesque Nanyi Valley and the 3,700-metre altitude Basum Lake.

The hotel’s website is taking bookings from April 15.

This summer, the hotel group will also open the Hilton Jiuzhaigou Resort in far northern Sichuan province. Located close to the Unesco World Heritage-listed Jiuzhaigou National Park and Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area, the resort will have a total of 426 rooms, suites and villas – Executive rooms and all suites and villas have private balconies with superb mountain views.

Event facilities are substantial, with 1,522 sqm of space across seven function rooms and a 910 sqm pillarless ballroom – all with the latest conferencing technology. There are four restaurants: Open is the all-day dining spot, Jiu is the lobby bar and lounge, Simmer offers Chinese hotpot cuisine, and Xang Xung serves up Tibetan specialities.

Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport is 80km to the south, while Jiuzhaigou National Park is only 14km away. The options for hiking and horse trekking are endless – this is considered to be one of China’s most beautiful natural destinations.

Hilton changes loyalty programme

Hilton’s loyalty programme, which has 60 million members worldwide, announced changes today.

The changes include a rebranding – it is changing from Hilton HHonors to Hilton Honors, which will be a relief to the spellcheck, and also seeShop with Points at Amazon be introduced. This will be welcome for many members with low numbers of points looking to get some use from their points.

In addition, members from April will be able to combine points and money for a hotel stay, again, popular with those who do not have sufficient points to redeem at the hotel of their chocie. In addition the changes allow family and friends to combine their points for a redemption. There is also the ability (from March) for top tier members to extend Diamond status on a one-time, one-year extension of their status.

The benefits extend the methods used by Hilton to tempt guests to book directly with the brand ratehr than through third-party sites. Other inititaives include offering free wifi to members – provided they booked directly.

Ningbo gets second Doubletree hotel

Hilton Worldwide has opened second Doubletree hotel in Ningbo, China in the partnership with Shimao Hotels and Resorts.

 

Tang Ming, general manager of the Shimao Group said: “Following the launch of Doubletree by Hilton Ningbo Chunxiao in December 2015, we open Doubletree by Hilton Ningbo Beilun in December 2016. Shimao Hotels and Resorts has been working well with different international hospitality groups over the years, while Hilton Worldwide is a top brand in the industry and has a lot of local managing experiences.”

 

Doubletree by Hilton Ningbo Beilun is located in the CBD of Beilun, and is close to the Beilun Intime City – one of the largest shopping malls in Beilun. The hotel can be reached in a ten-minute walk from the metro station Line 1, and is about 40-minute drive from the Ningbo Lishe International Airport.

 

The hotel has 379 rooms, including 20 suites. Each room offers signature Sweet Dreams by Doubletree Sleep Experience’s custom-designed mattress, pillows and linens. There is also a range of amenities including 42-inch LED TV with international channels, wifi, desk and sofa.

 

There are three F&B outlets. OPEN is an all-day dining restaurant serving dishes using locally sourced and regional ingredients. Yuxi offers regional Cantonese specialties with local flavours and cooking techniques from the hotel’s province, featuring signature dishes such as beggar’s chicken. The lobby lounge provides brewed coffee, light snacks and bar menu.

 

Guests can also hold events and meetings in its 1,600 sqm of function space, comprising an 832 sqm pillarless Grand Ballroom with eight-metre-high ceiling, nine multi-function rooms, one VIP room and one boardroom. All are provided with audio and visual equipment and technical support.

The Manhattan property is the first in New York for the Curio brand

 

The Renwick hotel in New York has joined Hilton’s Curio Collection.

 

The 173-room property, which opened last year on East 40th Street between Park and Lexington Avenue, two blocks from Grand Central station, is the first New York member for the Curio brand, which is a collection of four- and five-star properties.

 

The property is a renovation of the Bedford hotel, which was originally built as a long-stay property in the 1920s, counting John Steinbeck and F Scott Fitzgerald among its former residents.

 

It has taken this literary and artistic heritage as inspiration for the interiors – rooms are equipped with “artist-inspired” desks with writing paper and ink, works by local artists and easel-inspired” TV stands. The 33 studios and suites feature books by the authors who stayed here. Wifi is free and some rooms and suites have balconies.

 

Facilities include Bedford and Co restaurant, which serves contemporary American cuisine.

Hilton opens dual-branded property in Calgary

Hilton has opened a dual-brand property in Calgary, totalling 320 rooms.

The Hilton Garden Inn Calgary Downtown and serviced apartments brand Homewood Suites Calgary Downtown are housed within the same building, but have separate entrances, lobbies and dining areas.

The Garden Inn has studio rooms with either one king bed or two queen beds, or King Corner Suites with one king bed and a separate seating area with a sleeper sofa. Rooms have a 47-inch TV, work desk, ergonomic chair and in-room “hospitality centre” with a mini fridge, microwave oven and coffee maker.

The Garden Grille and Bar restaurant offers breakfast, dinner, cocktails and evening room service to all Garden Inn guests.

Homewood Suites Calgary Downtown offers studio suites with one king bed or full suites with two queen beds. Suites include a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker and twin-burner stove as well as a dining area, sleeper sofa and desk with an ergonomic chair. Daily breakfast and grocery shopping services are complimentary.

Guests with both brands receive free wifi in all rooms, access to the hotel’s indoor pool, fitness centre and 24-hour business centre with free printing, fax and copy machines as well as access to the Pavilion Pantry, which offers 24-hour snacks, drinks and microwavable items.

Canopy by Hilton to open in Chicago

Hilton Worldwide is to open a property under its lifestyle Canopy brand in Chicago.

The 223-room Canopy by Hilton Chicago Loop is scheduled to open in autumn 2018, and will feature a 20th floor restaurant, bar and Canopy Central lobby, as well as a fitness centre, “day transfer lounge”, 4,000 square feet of meeting space, and a rooftop bar and terrace.

Rooms average 44.5 sqm and feature 60-inch HDTVs, wooden floors, and bathrooms with walk-in showers .

Canopy Central will host complimentary beer and wine tastings each evening, and will also be where guests can enjoy complimentary breakfast (or they can opt to have a breakfast bag delivered to their room).

The hotel will be located at the corner of South LaSalle Street and West Adams Street in Chicago’s Loop district, within the top four floors of a converted historic landmarked building, which also houses a 610-room JW Marriott.
