Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed an agreement to open a new Holiday Inn hotel in the 430 Pitt Street development in Sydney’s central business district. The Holiday Inn Sydney Central, which will offer 305 rooms when it opens in 2020, is claimed by IHG to be “the largest midscale property in the Sydney CBD pipeline”.

In addition to its own restaurant, terrace bar and meeting space with capacity for 120 people, the Holiday Inn Sydney Central will have access to a retail concourse and a 1,000 sqm private art gallery that will be part of the 430 Pitt Street mixed-use development.

“The property will be a jewel in the Sydney CBD landscape with its unique wedge-shaped design and green flowing rooftops,” said Jing Wen Lin, director at Linzhu (Australia) Pty Ltd, which signed the agreement with IHG for the new property. “Sydney continues to experience significant demand so it’s a great time to be opening a new hotel, and I can’t imagine a better partner than IHG nor a better brand than Holiday Inn to make the most of this rare space.”

Holiday Inn opened its first property in Sydney in 1952 and currently operates six hotels in the city not including the upcoming Holiday Inn Sydney Central. IHG’s overall portfolio in Australia includes 26 hotels under the Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands.

In related news, on March 7 IHG announced it had signed eight new Holiday Inn hotels to open in Germany.
