Thompson Hotels will open The Beekman New York this spring in lower Manhattan’s financial district, accepting reservations from May 1. The Beekman will have 287 rooms centred around the pyramidal atrium of the 1883 Temple Court, designed in Queen Anne style and one of the first high-rises in the city. The Beekman New York The nine-story atrium, with ‘wrought-iron railings and balustrades ornamented with flowers, dragons, and sunbursts’, will feature a communal lounge and bar crowned by a Renaissance revival glass ceiling. A contemporary high-rise behind the Temple Court will also house residences serviced by the hotel. The Beekman New York Rooms benefit from high ceilings and come with aged oak floors, Carrara marble bathrooms, vintage furniture and a craft cocktail table. An entry-level Superior Queen measures 285 square feet, with rates starting from US$588 a night in May. Duplex penthouses in the turrets of the historic building feature 30-foot ceilings and 1,200 square feet of space, as well as an outdoor terrace. The Beekman New York Chefs Tom Colicchio and Keith McNally will both open restaurants in the hotel. Thompson Hotels opened the first phase of its second Mexico property, in Playa del Carmen, in November. A hotel near Seattle’s Public Market is under construction.
