Monarch Airlines has cancelled its order for six Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, citing a decision to focus on short-haul operations.
The carrier had originally been scheduled to take delivery of its first Dreamliner aircraft in 2010, making it one of the first airlines to fly the next-generation Boeing aircraft.
But delays led this date to be pushed back several times, with a recent report on respected aviation website flightglobal.com suggesting that Monarch might have to wait until 2014 for the first delivery.
The carrier said that the order cancellation was a result of a "strategic decision" to strengthen and develop its scheduled short-haul network. Monarch recently announced new scheduled services between Gatwick and Barcelona later this year (see online news July 18).
The carrier also announced it would be dropping charges for flight purchases using debit cards, and unveiled a new livery and slogan "Fly your way. Every day".
