Monarch Airlines will offer 11 flights per week between London Gatwick and Barcelona this winter, competing with Easyjet on the route.
Daily flights will commence on October 21, increasing to 11-times per week from October 30, with return fares starting from £57 including taxes and charges.
Monarch is a predominantly leisure traveller, although the carrier said the route would attract “a broad mix of visitors for business, city breaks and leisure for beach goers”. The airline recently scrapped charges for debit card purchases (see online news June 3).
Easyjet currently serves Barcelona from London Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, and recently announced plans to operate flights from London Southend airport to destinations including Barcelona and Ibiza next year (see online news June 16). BA flies to the Catalan city from Heathrow and London City.
