Major refurb for Chicago W hotel

The W Chicago – City Centre hotel has reopened after a multi-million dollar renovation, with all of the hotel’s 172 guestrooms and suites, and the W Living Room having seen a revamp.

The property was the first W hotel to open in the city, in 2001. Eva Ziegler, global brand leader of W Hotels, said: “As we continue to grow globally, it is essential that we upgrade our original hotels in order to create a consistent lifestyle experience for W guests worldwide.”

The renovation of W Chicago – City Centre follows the renovations of W New York, W New York-Times Square, and W San Francisco.

The W Living Room, the updated lobby and lounge area of W Chicago – City Centre, now features high columns, oversized lamps, a long winding sofa and thousands of LED pin lights designed to resemble a night sky. There are also side tables with liquid sealed into the tabletops, which means the table’s design will change and move when pressed. The décor is neutral, with "vibrant blue accents".

The new-style guestrooms and suites have a modern design, with features including a magazine rack that flips back to reveal a bar for shaking and mixing cocktails, wall-mounted flatscreen televisions, over-sized furniture, textured carpeting and custom wall coverings.

W Chicago-City Centre continues to offer a Tuscan-inspired steakhouse, a fitness facility, a 24-hour business centre, and more than 14,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The hotel is located in Chicago Loop, near the Sears Tower, the Chicago Art Institute, and Michigan Avenue.

W Hotels plans to renovate and upgrade its existing hotels and more than double its portfolio by 2011, with more than 25 new properties planned, including Boston, London, Milan and Bangkok.

In other news from Starwood, the group also opened a new Four Points by Sheraton in Times Square (see online news June 28) and will debut its St Regis brand in Bermuda in 2013 (see online news June 30).
