Dutch carrier KLM is to commence flights from Liverpool to its hub in Amsterdam for the first time since the Second World War.

KLM will launch three-times daily flights between the two cities on March 29, 2009, using Fokker 70 aircraft configured for up to 80 passengers.

Flights will depart Liverpool’s John Lennon airport at 0615, 1030 and 1730, arriving into Schiphol at 0835, 1250 and 1950. The return legs will depart Amsterdam at 0925, 1625 and 2030, landing back into the UK at 0950, 1650 and 2055 respectively.

KLM will use the flights to further feed into its long-haul network out of Amsterdam, and as an opportunity to tap into the Cheshire and North Wales catchment area. The airline already serves Manchester six times daily from Amsterdam, as well as 13 other UK airports including Aberdeen, Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, and London’s City and Heathrow airports.

For Liverpool the decision marks the first non low-cost carrier to fly to Amsterdam from the city’s airport in recent times – Easyjet currently plies the route three-times daily with Airbus A319 aircraft.
