First look: Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong new guestrooms

14 Nov 2013 by Clement Huang

Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong has begun renovating its guestrooms. The 4-star property by Dorsett Hospitality International is located minutes from Causeway Bay and Wan Chai commercial and business districts, offering accessibility to the island MTR line.

As part of the renovation, Cosmopolitan has introduced a new room configuration – the "Grand Deluxe" room. Measuring 26 sqm, it features décor inspired by both Victorian and Oriental design motifs. Available with queen, king or twin beds, the new rooms offer a view of either the Happy Valley Race Course or the city skyline.

The Victorian-style bed headboard has a highly distinctive and striking design, with the gold trimmings standing out atop the white base that the design is printed on. Softly lit lamps enhance the vibrant look of the room.

Mother of pearl work desk

The key oriental element of the room is the work desk that features a surface of interweaving Chinese rattan pattern on luxury pearl. Textually, the desk surface is smooth and comfortable for guests to work on. Functionally, the pearl addition aides heat dispersion, so laptops or other electronic devices don't overheat after extended durations on the table.

Pull-out ironing board

One of the added features of the room is the pull-out ironing board. Located in the wardrobe cupboard at the side of the bed, the board is easily accessible and simple to set up.

Room amenities include a flat-screen tv with cable and satellite channels, an iPod docking station, in-room telephone and a mini bar (with four different brands of complimentary mineral water). The hotel also has a pillow menu, allowing guests to choose from 11 pillows including the tailor-made Eco Pillow, feather, scented lavender, rose or jasmine, stone, wheat fibre, buckwheat, non-allergic, foam and bolster pillow. The service is free of charge. Wifi is complimentary for all online bookings.

Cosmopolitan will be renovating its existing rooms as well. Business Traveller Asia-Pacific visited a Family Quad room that had been recently refreshed.

These rooms will showcase a similar design philosophy to the Grand Deluxe room. Family Quads are more spacious at 32 sqm, with two double queen size beds and several “child-friendly” amenities including a list of complimentary cartoon DVDs, child-sized bathrobes, and teddy bears.

Renovation of the hotel’s top four floors is already complete, and the remaining floors will be finished at the end of 2014. Cosmopolitan is currently offering a special package for its Grand Deluxe rooms. Available until December 31, guests who stay in the rooms can enjoy discounts starting at 10 per cent, complimentary wifi, daily breakfast, use of the mini bar, and airport transfer services depending on the number of nights.
