Etihad adds third A380 to Heathrow

17 Aug 2015 by GrahamSmith

Etihad Airways is moving towards an all-A380 operation to London Heathrow after adding a third superjumbo on to the route.

The carrier started operating a third A380 between Abu Dhabi and LHR yesterday.

It rostered its first A380 between the two cities at the end of last year (see news, December 19) and a second in May (see news, April 30).

Etihad now flies the A380 on all three services - EY11/12, EY17/18 and EY19/20. However, looking ahead to September, it appears that an A340 aircraft will be rostered once or twice a week onto the EY17/18 and EY19/20 services.

As this differs slightly from week-to-week, readers are advised to check the plane type before booking.

Etihad's A380 contains a Residence by Etihad three-room suite, with a living room, ensuite shower room, bedroom and dedicated butler, and nine First Apartments, each featuring a reclining lounge chair and an ottoman and opens up to become a separate 80.5-inch fully-flat bed. It also has 70 business class seats and 417 economy seats.

Earlier this month, Emirates announced that its London services will become an A380-only offering from January 1 (see news, August 6).
