Canadian budget carrier Westjet will launch its first service to the UK next year.
The airline will operate a daily summer schedule, between May 29 and October 23, linking Halifax with Glasgow.
Westjet is aiming to offer competitive fares by using a narrow-body B737-700 for the route.
It said that the flight time from Halifax to Glasgow will be five hours and 15 mins, although it will take a little longer westbound because of prevailing winds.
Westjet began serving Dublin with a B737 earlier this year.
To readers south of the border, this new Glasgow route may appear insignificant. But there are strong links between Scotland and Canada and, assuming no other carrier annouces a similar plan, Westjet's service will be the fastest way to reach Halifax.
But Halifax is not the only destination. Although full schedule details have not yet been made available, the idea is that the Glasgow to Halifax flight will continue to Toronto. Passengers can then either stopover or continue their journey on Westjet to cities between there and Vancouver.
Full details of fares and schedules are as yet unavailable.
