Birmingham airport has announced a series of developments aimed at improving the passenger journey.

Works are now underway to revamp the security processing area, providing more boarding card gates, as well as adding a dedicated security preparation area, and refreshing the waiting area with new flooring and lighting.

New digital wayfinding and signage will also be introduced before the summer season, and a covered walkway is under construction linking the free drop off car park with the terminal building.

Finally a new Bottega prosecco bar will also open airside this spring, as well as Indian inspired burrito and sandwich outlet Wrapchic.

The investment follows record traffic figures in 2017, with nearly 13 million passengers passing through the airport last year, an 11.5 per cent growth on 2016.

Primera Air is set to launch new transatlantic routes from Birmingham to Boston, New York Newark and Toronto later this year.

A 178-room Hilton Garden Inn property is also set to open on Concorde Road close to the airport terminal building this summer.
