London brand Made In Global produces a range of men’s and women’s bags and accessories including backpacks, handbags and briefcases available in durable nylon and premium Italian leather. I tried the San Telmo unisex backpack on a recent trip to Oslo, and was successful in fitting inside a weekend’s worth of clothes and toiletries until I tried to shoehorn in my laptop (which is fairly hefty), and conceded that I’d need another bag. With fewer items inside, it was able to comfortably hold a 15-inch laptop.

Besides this, I was impressed by the volume of the bag. It has a spacious main compartment and a small pocket with a zip on the back, suitable for holding smaller items like keys or a wallet. On the bag’s front, there is a wide pocket with a stylish silver zip, perfect for holding travel documents or even a small tablet.

It’s a sturdy rucksack, made with hardwearing, full-grain leather from Florence, which I imagine could withstand years of wear and tear without it showing. The back panel is quite wide set and seemed to be made for someone of a much larger stature despite the bag being described as “unisex”, and I found the straps slipped off my shoulders if I didn’t stand upright at all times with perfect posture. The straps have silver buckle fasteners, which, though attractive, made tightening and loosening tricky while on the move.

Practicality aside, the backpack is very good looking, and sits flush against the back with comfortable cushioned straps that make wearing it over long periods no problem.

VERDICT Great for an overnight stay or as a commuter bag.
