Background

Opened in 1928, The Peninsula Hong Kong is among the city’s oldest and most iconic hotels.

What’s it like?

Often referred to as the Grande Dame of the Far East, the hotel is known for its Eastern and Western hospitality, which evidently reflects in its overall décor.

Where is it?

Located in the district of Tsim Sha Tsui, this property is close to the Victoria Harbour waterfront. Rolls-Royce transfers between the Hong Kong International Airport and the hotel are available. For those seeking more exclusivity, The Peninsula Hong Kong offers a helicopter transfer to and from its private helipad.

Rooms

I stayed in the Grand Deluxe Harbour View room that offered beautiful panoramic views of the Victoria Harbour and the city skyline. The room features elegant decor, state-of-the-art techology and amenities that set the tone for a relaxing stay. Other accommodation categories include the Deluxe Courtyard room, Superior suite, Grand Deluxe Harbour View suite and The Marco Polo suite. The highlight of the iconic hotel is The Peninsula suite. Located on the top floor of the Peninsula Tower, this suite consists of a private living room, plush bedrooms, bathrooms, a gym and a film screening room.

Food and Drink

I dined at Felix, a chic restaurant serving European cuisine and speciality cocktails. Other F&B offerings at The Peninsula Hong Kong include The Lobby, that serves continental and Southeast Asian delights and Chesa for an authentic Swiss meal. The Verandah is great for quick bites and Imasa for Japanese cravings. You can also head to The Bar for a perfect sundowner and enjoy some craft cocktails, rare single malt whiskies and vintage armagnacs.

Meetings

If you are looking for an outdoor set-up, then opt for the Sun Terrace that is adorned with high-quality wooden furnishing upholstered in green and white or The Salisbury Room, ideal for a regal cocktail reception for up to 150 people. The Gaddis Private Dining Room, The Garden Suite and the Spring Moon Private Dining Room are some other venues that can be utilised for intimate gatherings at The Peninsula Hong Kong.

Leisure

Fix up an appointment at The Peninsula Spa for the signature Peninsula Time, a two-hour bespoke treatment including services such as advanced facials, zone-specific massages for relaxation and an acupressure head massage. Other recreational amenities include a 24-hour fitness centre and an indoor swimming pool overlooking the Hong Kong skyline.

Verdict

The Grande Dame of the Far East truly knows how to spoil its guests with ultra-modern amenities and uber-luxury experiences.
