WHAT’S IT LIKE? Set in the tropical island paradise of Langkawi, Four Seasons Resort offers its guests a mind and body retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. While its architecture and design evokes traditional Asian and Arabic influence, the resort offers luxurious amenities and five-star services.

WHERE IS IT? A 25-minute drive from Langkawi International Airport, the property sits on a beachfront property along the Tanjung Rhu Peninsula.

HOW MANY ROOMS? 91 well-appointed villas.

ROOM FACILITIES: A complete home entertainment system with TV and CD/DVD player, wired and wireless internet, fully stocked private bar, tea/coffee-making facilities, premium toiletries, non-allergenic foam pillows and multiline cordless telephone among others.

RESTAURANTS: Three. Serai (which means “lemongrass” in Malay) for all-day dining that features Euro-Asian cuisine; Ikan Ikan, set in a traditional “limas” Malay-style home, opens for dinner and is great for fresh seafood; and the poolside Kafe Kelapa, nestled in natural surroundings within the sounds of the sea, offers light fares of mostly Western cuisine and its full-service sunken bar serves tropical and international cocktails.

BARS: Moorish-inspired Rhu Bar lures guests with its tapestry of rich colours and textures and offers a stunning sunset view. It has a well-stocked wine list and a range of beverages, including house special tropical cocktails and specialty malts.

BUSINESS FACILITIES: The full-service business centre offers complimentary internet access. Two conference rooms – Congkak Room and Gasing Room – can accommodate up to 180 people and are equipped with full technological support and high-speed internet access. For cocktails and dinners, the Veranda is perfect for a party of 120.

LEISURE FACILITIES: An extensive range of complimentary non-motorised water-sports activities from kayaking to snorkelling, swimming and infinity pools, a tennis court, a fitness centre that features a dedicated yoga pavilion and garden tours, among others. The Spa has six secluded spa pavilions offering a range of massage treatments.

PRICE: Until December 20, standard rates start from US$552 per night in a Lower Melaleuca Pavilion.

VERDICT: Perfect for a private getaway for guests out to restore their body-mind equilibrium.
