Budget design hotels Motel One is set to open 10 new properties across Europe by 2018. The German group has announced openings this year in Munich (434 rooms), Freiburg (252 rooms) and Basel (134 rooms), with hotels due in Paris, Zurich, Barcelona and two more locations in Berlin by 2018. The group’s presence in the UK currently spans London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Newcastle, which opened earlier this year. Scheduled to open autumn 2017, the Motel One Manchester Cross Street is the group’s second property in the city, with a 374-room Glasgow property due in 2018. Motel One Glasgow Ursula Schelle-Muller, chief marketing officer for Motel One, says location is key to the brand’s offering. “We’d like to expand in London, but we don’t want to compromise on providing our guests a central location. Currently our Tower Hill property offers this, as well as panoramic views of the city.” Growth across the continent will reach an all-time high next year, she adds. “While the focus has been on Germany in the past, we are expanding quickly across Europe and next year will see our largest number of openings yet.” “Business travellers currently make up 65 per cent of our occupancy. Sophisticated design and central locations are how we differentiate ourselves from others in the budget industry. Our lounge concept also has private areas that can be used for meetings, and it's also a peaceful place to get a few hours of work done.” Motel One currently has 53 properties across Europe. motel-one.com Marisa Cannon
