Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ budget arm, has started operations to India, with flights from Singapore to Chennai and Amritsar.

The airline flies daily with a B787-8 departing Singapore at 2255 and arrives in Chennai at 0010.

It also flies thrice a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays) with a B787-9 departing Singapore at 0900 and arriving in Amritsar at 1210.

Scoot is replacing Tiger Airways’ service on the Singapore-Chennai route. From July 2, Scoot will increase its frequency on the Singapore-Amritsar route to four times a week (adding Mondays).

It will also be launching a service from Singapore to Jaipur, October onwards.

Scoot is closely eyeing tier II destinations of India for its expansion.

“We are focusing on the tier II cities in India to expand our reach. We will promote weekend travel to Singapore as the travel fare will be cheaper than flying to some of the Indian cities,” says Bharath Mahadeven, country head of India, Scoot.
