Five airline ads we fell in love with

1 Jul 2015 by Clement Huang

Welcome Home Charlotte

AIRLINE Qantas

AD AGENCY Lawrence Creative Strategy
WHY WE LOVE IT We all know that feeling of pain when leaving a place we've been to for a long time, and people we love. Qantas did an excellent job in conveying the emotions experienced when an unaccompanied minor leaves her grandparents in the US, and then returns to the arms of her parents back in Australia.
HIGHLIGHT The soulful music vocals ensured that our heartstrings were tugged throughout the entire video.

Miss Adventure

AIRLINE Cathay Pacific

AD AGENCY McCann Worldgroup Hong Kong

WHY WE LOVE IT Nothing beats the excitement of travelling in developing countries. This one features a female traveller in Cambodia and Thailand, and despite the language barriers, locals welcome her with open arms of hospitality. Scenes range from her joining in a spontaneous dance session with some older folk in a park to taking a walk through the natural beauty these countries are known for.
HIGHLIGHT It’s happened to all of us: watching locals crack up as you tried “exotic” food that didn’t go down so well.

On the Road

AIRLINE Delta Air Lines

AD AGENCY Wieden+Kennedy New York
WHY WE LOVE IT As business travellers ourselves, watching the lead character struggle with the pitfalls of moving in foreign countries is something that we can definitely relate to. In some ways, the time we spend in the air is the happiest time of our travels… free from work (mostly) and free from stress.
HIGHLIGHT We laughed when the lead character was unable to open his hotel door using his key card. How many times have we all faced that little problem before?

The Lengths We Go To

AIRLINE Singapore Airlines

AD AGENCY TBWA Singapore
WHY WE LOVE IT This advertisement exudes the class and hospitality that we’ve grown accustomed to with SIA and their iconic Singapore Girl. The delicate imagery makes it impossible not to become invested in the airline’s search for the finest materials and ingredients in order to lift “an experience to another level”.
HIGHLIGHT Featuring stunning backdrops of some of the world’s most beautiful destinations, this minute-long ad is a pleasure to watch.

Let It Fly

AIRLINE Virgin Atlantic

AD AGENCY adam&eveDDB
WHY WE LOVE IT It’s not often that an advertisement wows us, but we’re suitably impressed by Virgin Atlantic’s efforts in creating a sharp, witty and well constructed video that personifies the airline’s youthful energy so well. The quick pace and humour can’t help but make you smile, and forget that you’re watching an ad (kudos).
HIGHLIGHT Don’t you love it when all the faces at the UN conference turn towards you at the same time, and one rep says to another: “Who is this clown?”
