Air Canada, a member of Star Alliance, will launch both Delhi and Dubai next November with the stretched Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner.
The carrier will fly three of the four weekly frequencies between Toronto and Delhi with the B787-9 while the fourth frequency will be operated with the smaller B787-8.
Air Canada said that India is the largest international market to which it currently does not have service. It further noted that opening the Delhi route is feasible only due to the B787’s operating economics.
Air Canada will be the only airline servicing the Toronto – Delhi route directly after loss-making Air India pulled out of it earlier this year. Jet Airways serves the route via Brussels. Tickets went on sale yesterday.
The Canadian carrier also announced it will start thrice-weekly Toronto-Dubai flights in November. Two of the weekly frequencies will be operated with the B787-9, while the third will be operated with the B787-8. Tickets will go on sale from December 16.
The airline also revealed the configuration of its B787-9 yesterday. The airliner will feature 30 business 180-degree fully-flat business seats in a 1-2-1 setup, 21 premium economy seats in a 2-3-2 layout and 253 3-3-3 configured economy seats.
