Singapore Airlines (SIA) and EVA Air are set to commence codeshare operations on select Trans-Pacific routes operated by the Taiwanese carrier.
Starting December 1, SIA will place its marketing code on EVA Air-operated flights from Taipei’s Taoyuan to Los Angeles, New York (JFK) and San Francisco.
The partnership is good news for SIA customers, as the carrier does not currently offer direct services to the U.S. Its flights to Los Angeles, New York (JFK) and San Francisco require a layover in Tokyo (Narita), Frankfurt or Hong Kong, respectively.
SIA used to serve Los Angeles, as well as New York’s Newark, with direct flights using an Airbus A340-500. However, it was eventually forced to end both due to the retirement of the fuel-inefficient four-engine aircraft.
