Emirates launches iPhone app

17 Nov 2014 by GrahamSmith

Emirates has launched an iPhone app with features including online check-in.

The Emirates App for iPhone allows passengers with an Apple smartphone to book flights and view their travel itinerary; store and use their boarding pass offline with Passbook; and receive push alerts for chauffeur-drive service, flight boarding, seat selection, gate changes and check-in.

It is also possible to register for Emirates Skywards membership, while those who are already loyalty programme members can view their Skywards Miles balance and history and use their miles to pay for flights and upgrades.

The launch of the iPhone app follows the launch of the Emirates App for iPad earlier this year. Emirates said it next plans to extend the app to Android devices.

Emirates senior vice-president Boutros Boutros said: "We have seen tremendously positive response to both our iPad and iPhone apps to date. Downloads and usage figures continue to rise, and feedback has been good.

"iPhone represents the majority of the mobile traffic to our web sites, and therefore we have launched on iOS first. Work is underway for an Android version, even as we continue to look at new features for our iPad and iPhone apps."

Earlier this month, Emirates started offering a complimentary 10MB of internet data to all its passengers across all service classes onboard its 53 A380 and 28 B777 aircraft (see news, November 5).
