Cathay Pacific will hold talks with its pilots next week, after their union voted to reject an offer for a 10 per cent pay increment awarded over the next three years.
According to Bloomberg, the vote was very close with only fifty-one per cent of the Hong Kong Aircrew Officers Association saying “no” to the carrier’s offer.
CX has expressed disappointment over the results, and is reported to be considering its next move.
Both parties hope to make significant progress during more talks next week. If those fail too, the pilots said they may choose using industrial action against the airline.
While this may not turn into an all-out strike, it could lead to operations disruptions ahead of the year’s peak travel season.
“The nature of our business requires us to prepare resources to cover any operational irregularities,” said the carrier in a statement. “We will do our best to make sure that we continue to operate our flight services as scheduled”.
